The extensive use of antibiotics has led to residue being found in different foods in the domestic market as well as in shrimp exports from Vietnam, which are often returned by foreign customers. Antibiotic-free shrimp farming is now common around the world and produces high quality and safe products. Vietnam has gradually applied different farming models, with commitments made to not use antibiotics or banned substances, or ending the use of antibiotics for a certain period prior to harvesting. Though antibiotics have been discontinued for a while, they remain in different types of shrimp, which can affect human health.

Consumers are now more and more interested in products that are antibiotic-free throughout the farming process and that are traceable.

For the last 20 years, the corporation has invested in each segment to integrate the value chain, from broodstock to seedstock and aquafeed to the final product on the consumer’s table.

From the early days, Viet - Uc Seafood Corporation chose to cooperate with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Australia in establishing a selective breeding program to produce the first lines of broodstock specifically bred for Vietnam’s environment. In addition to the US, Singapore, and Thailand, Vietnam is now also proud of no longer being dependent on broodstock sources, creating a sustainable direction for the industry and contributing to changing Vietnam’s position on the world shrimp map. This is also key to producing high-tech shrimp seed, and improving the success rate and profit for farmers.

Not only investing in the seedstock segment, Viet - Uc Seafood Corporation is also focusing on the shrimp farming segment. It currently has three hi-tech shrimp farming and production complexes on an area of more than 1,000 ha in key areas, including Bac Lieu and Binh Dinh provinces, and, especially, a super-intensive large scale farming model in greenhouses. The “Sustainable VUS” shrimp farming model does not use antibiotics and focuses on saving water, especially in waste treatment. This is a sustainable direction for the environment, improving product value, and should be extended more strongly in the shrimp farming community.

This uses microorganisms to improve water quality, treat toxic nitrogen-based and other substances through adding beneficial bacteria from other sources, or take advantage of available microorganisms in the culture process.

A total of over 4 tons of shrimps from the Viet Uc High-tech Shrimp Production Complex in Bac Lieu were personally delivered by the Viet Uc team to each house, each neighborhood, and even through the Zero-Dong Market. This activity is really meaningful and practical at this time, not only supporting a quality meal for people but, more significantly, spreading the love and noble human values of Vietnamese people.
